Halloween, originally known as All Hallows’ Eve, traces its roots back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated over 2,000 years ago in what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France. It marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year. Samhain was a time when the veil between the living and the dead was believed to be at its thinnest, allowing spirits to walk the Earth.
